THE CARNIVAL & CIRCUS MUSEUM'S, Fun Factory, is located in the old industrial district of Brantford. Carnival companies have made their winter quarters in this neighbourhood since in 1938. Because of Brantford’s central location, with access to rail and major highways in Southern Ontario, the city was attractive to carnival companies searching for an ideal community in which to winter.
WINTER QUARTERS were used to store the railway rolling stock. flat, box and sleeper cars in the off season and to repair, paint and refurbish the rides, games, tents, and other equipment to be ready to hit the road in May. The Carnival Museum purchased Sammy Arrigo’s, BIG A Shows winter quarters to house its collection of rides, penny arcade machines, banners, posters, games, and over 2000 Carnival and Circus artefacts. The museum restored winter quarters featured, the great exhibit hall, the elephant party room, a small Amusement Park. Admission was by donations only but City of Brantford forced us to close.
CONCLUSION: On April 20th, 2016, the Museums Board decided not to give-up. The Carnivals by their nature are transient. We hope to hit the road to a new host city. We are actively looking for a new home, so please help.
